Lesson 93

1. It is the end of the school year. Susan is leaving. She is saying goodbye to Mr Zhu. 學年結束

了, 蘇珊就要離開了. 她正在向朱先生道別. 1). Susan is leaving. 現在進行時態表示將

來或近期內按計劃, 安排要做的事情. 在英語中, 一些表示位置移動的動詞, 如: arrive ;

come ; drive ; fly ; go ; leave ; start ; travel ; move 等等能夠用於這種句型. 此外, do ; play ;

work 等也可以這樣用. 它們都可以表示按計劃和安排將要進行的行為. 例如: Mr. Chen

is driving to Urumqi tomorrow. 陳先生將明天駕車去烏魯木齊. My mother is coming to see

me tomorrow. 我母親明天要來看我. What are you doing this evening? 你今天晚上打算幹

什麼? 2). say goodbye to sb. 向某人道別. say hello / sorry to sb. 向某人問好/道歉.

2. I wish you every success in the future. 我祝你將來萬事如意. 句型I wish you + n . 表示祝

願. 例如: I wish you a pleasant journey. 祝你旅途愉快. 再如: I wish you success / luck /

victory / a happy new year. 祝你成功/好運/勝利/新年愉快. 回答這種句子用Thank you.

3. I’d also like to congratulate you on your good work in these two years. 我也想祝賀你, 這兩

年來你學習得很好. congratulate vt. 祝賀; 道賀. congratulate sb. on sth. 就某事向某人

表示祝賀 例如: Friends came to congratulate the young parents and to see the baby. 朋友

們來向年輕的父母親道賀並觀看嬰兒. I congratulated my friend on her birthday. 我祝賀

我的朋友生日快樂. They congratulated me on my recovery. 他們祝賀我身體康復. Good

work 學習好 work (不可數名詞) 工作 ; 功課 .

4. I’m afraid I’m still not very good at it, though. 恐怕我在這方面不行. I’m afraid … . 常表示一種婉轉的否定. 它有以下三種句型: 1). be afraid of sth. /doing sth. 害怕某物/做某事(不願) ; 2). be afraid to do sth. 害怕做某事(不敢) ; 3). be afraid (that) … . 恐怕…….

例句: I’m afraid of waking my parents. 我怕會吵醒我的爸爸媽媽. He is never afraid of

difficulties. 他從來不害怕困難. Her grandmother is afraid to fly in an airplane. 她奶奶怕

坐飛機. I’m afraid (that) she is ill. 恐怕她病了. I’m afraid I can’t come. 恐怕我來不了啦.

though用於句末作狀語, 譯成 “然而” “不過” . 例如: He said he would come. He didn’t,

though. 他説過他要來的, 然而卻沒有來.

5. It’s a pity (that) you missed the sports meeting last week. 你錯過了上週的運動會, 真遺憾.

It’s a pity 後按that 引導的主語從句. 在口語中that 可以省略. 例如: It’s a pity (that) we

missed the film yesterday. 我們沒有看昨天的電影, 真是太遺憾了. It’s a pity (that) you

couldn’t come to the party. 你未能來參加晚會, 真遺憾.

6. I wanted to ask Chen Wei too, but he’s away. 我原想請陳偉的, 但他已走了. What a shame!

Never mind, I’ll write to him. 真遺憾! 不過不要緊. 我會寫信給他的. What a shame! (真遺憾! 真不像話!) 用來表示遺憾和憤懣. 例如: What a shame that I failed in the mid-term examinations. 我期中考試不及格, 真是遺憾! What a shame that you have to leave so soon! 你這麼早就得走, 真是遺憾!

7. Do you remember when the three of us went on a picnic? 你還記得我們三人一起去野餐的

情況嗎? the three of us 我們三個人 (總共三人) ; three of us 我們中的三個人 (總數多

於三人) 例如: The teacher praised four of us. 老師表揚了我們中的四人.

1. I read about you in the newspaper and decided to come and hear you play. 我在報上看到了

你的情況, 於是決定來聽你演奏. read about sth. 閲讀到關於……的材料. 這裏的read

是不及物動詞. 一些及物動詞如hear ; learn ; write ; know等, 如後面接了介詞about / of.

則變成不及物動詞. 表示進行有關的行為. 例如: I learned about English. 我學習過一些

英語知識(英語發展史). I read about the news in the newspaper. 我在報上讀到過這則消

息. We learned about what happened to him. 我們聽説了他出的事情.

2. I’m very glad I made the effort. 我很高興不虛此行. effort為特定的目的而作的一次努力.

effort也可以用複數形式. 句中的effort指前面的travelled many miles. 短語 make an / the effort to do sth. 盡力去幹某事 例如: I will make every effort to help you. 我將盡一切努力來幫助你. He made an effort to finish his work. 他努力去完成了工作.

3. But I’m getting very tired of travelling. 但我對旅行感到厭倦了. get / be tired of 厭倦 …

側重於精神. 動詞短語 tire of厭倦 …側重於動作和感情. 請比較: The boy is getting of

boiled-eggs. 那個男孩厭煩吃煮雞蛋. I never tire of listening to the classical music. 我對

古典音樂百聽不厭. 再如: Readers have got tired of reading long articles. 讀者對讀宂長

的文章感到厭倦了.

4. At the moment in my country there are very few such schools. 目前在我國這類學校太少了.

at the moment “此刻”用於現在時;“那時”用於過去時;for the moment 暫時;for a moment 片刻;一時;一會兒. in a moment 立刻;立即. 試比較:My parents are getting in the wheat at the moment. 我父母親此刻正在地裏收割麥子. Stop discussing for the moment, please. 請暫停討論. I had to think for a moment before I remembered his name. 我想了一會兒才記起了他的名字. You go first. I’ll come in a moment. 你先走,我馬上就來.

5. But none of the banks I spoke to were interested. 我去談過的銀行沒有一家感興趣. none 表示三者以上全否定, 指人, 物都可以. 如指一定的範圍之內, 後接of 短語, 謂語動詞一般用複數(指全體). 但也可用單數(指個體). 請體會下面兩個句子: When I went to see my friends, none of them were in. 我去看望朋友, 他們誰都不在. None of them has been to the college. 他們中沒有人一個上過大學.

6. … the school will be expensive to run. 辦這所學校要花許多錢. run 經營; 管理; 組織. 例如: He is running the restaurant. 他正在經營那家餐館. We are going to run four continuation classes in our school next year. 明年我們學校打算辦四個補習班.

7. But it’s going to be a very tiring five years for me. 但對我來説這將是非常累人的五年. tiring 令人勞累的; tired 累了的. 試比較: It is a very tiring job. 這是一件非常累人的工作. I’m very tired now. 我累壞了.

8. Can I just check I’ve got the number right? 我核對一下號碼好嗎?get sth. right 使……準確無誤; get sth. wrong. 把……弄錯; 例如: If you do the maths problem carefully, you can get the answer right. 如果你仔細算這道數學題, 你就能算對它.

9. Could I drop in at your house after the concert, or would that be too late? 我可不可以在音樂會開完後去你家訪?那會不會太晚了?drop in on sb. 順便拜訪某人; 如接地點用at.

1. He is on the phone. Is he expecting you?他在打電話. 是他在等着你來嗎? expect vt 期望;

指望. 在這裏作 “期待着某人來”, 含有 “事先約好” 之意. 例如: I expect he will pass

the examinations. 我期盼他能夠通過這次考試. We are expecting him to come for dinner

this evening. 我們正盼望他今天晚上來吃飯.

2. I’ve just arrived myself so forgive me if I don’t seem to know what’s going on. 我自己是剛

到家. 所以, 如果我不瞭解情況的話, 那麼請您原諒. forgive vt 原諒; 寬恕. 例如: He

forgave me for losing his notebook. 他原諒了我丟掉了他的筆記本. Please forgive me for

waking you. 請原諒, 把你吵醒了.

3. He just asked me to come round for dinner. 他只是叫我過來吃飯. come round 來訪; 串門. (非正式的一種説法) . 例如: I’d like to come round your place one day. 我願意哪一天有空能到你這兒來玩一玩. It’s very kind of you to come round to see us. 你來看看我們真是太好了. come round 還可表示 “恢復知覺” , “轉變看法” , “又來到了” 之意. 例如: Li Mei came round when she knew the fact. 李梅知道了事實後, 改變了原來的看法. They watch-

ed by her bed, waiting for her to come round. 他們守在她牀邊, 等待她甦醒過來. The time for autumn harvest soon comes round. 不久又是秋收季節了.

4. You remember my friend who helped me out? 你還記得曾經幫助我擺脱困境的那位朋友

嗎? help sb. out 幫助某人擺脱困境 / 克服困難 例如: His friends helped him out when he was in debts. 在他負債累累時, 是朋友們幫他擺脱了困境. The taxi driver helped the old man out of the car. 出租車司機攙扶着那位老人下車.

5. I insist on telling him how great you were. 我一定要告訴他你是多麼了不起. insist on sth /

doing sth. 堅持某事/幹某事;

6. And I owe you some money. 我還欠你的錢呢. owe vt 欠; 欠債(接雙賓語) 例如: He owes

me 50 yuan. 他欠我50元錢. I owe 20 yuan to the tailor. 我欠那個裁縫20元錢. 把 …歸

功於… . 例如: I owe it to you that I passed the examinations. 我通過了考試. 應當感謝你. He owes his success to hard work. 他的成功是努力工作的結果. 分詞短語owing to 由於; 因為. 例如: I couldn’t come owing to a bad cough. 我因為咳嗽嚴重而不能來.

7. But let’s talk more over supper. 不過我們還是吃晚飯時再談吧. over 在……期間 例如:

He fell asleep over a book. 他在看書時睡着了.

8. And you’ll have another supporter in me . 你還有一個支持者. 就是我. 介詞in 後面的me

和前面的supporter 指的是同一個人. 再如: We have lost a good friend in Bill. 我們失去了

比爾這個好朋友. You will always have a good friend in me. 我永遠是你的好朋友.

9. I’d like to come and cover the walls with some bright paintings. 我願意來給牆上畫滿鮮豔的畫. cover…with…用覆蓋 例如:

10. Now let’s drink to the success of your school. 現在,咱們為你辦學成功,乾杯!Let’s drink

to… 祝酒時用語(用於非正式場合)to後接名詞, 表示 “為……乾杯”之意 例如: Let’s

drink to the success of Mr. Wang. 為王先生的成功乾杯! Let’s drink to your further achieve-

ments! 為了你取得更大的成就乾杯!

1. Playing tricks on others is something we should never do. 捉弄他人是我們永遠不應做的事

情. 短語 play a trick / tricks on sb. 捉弄某人; 開某人的玩笑. 例如: He played tricks on

others in that way. 他用那種辦法欺騙他人. They played a trick on Lao Wang and hid his

glasses. 他們捉弄老王, 把他的眼鏡藏起來了. These students like to play tricks on their

English teacher.

2. Babies like tearing paper into pieces. 嬰兒喜歡撕紙. tear vt. 撕; 扯爛, 例如: He tore a

page out of his notebook. 他從筆記本上撕下一張紙. The boy tore a hole in his trousers.

那個男孩把褲子扯了個洞. tear down 撕掉 tear sth. open 撕開 tear at 撕扯 tear sth.

into pieces 把……撕成碎片.
