重難點解析

1. Steve Jones is an environmental expert who tries to keep animals and plants from becoming endangered.斯帝夫是一位環境專家,他致力於阻止動植物遭遇危險。

句中keep sb./sth. From doing sth. 阻止/妨礙…做…

You’d better keep your son from smoking.你最好阻止你的兒子吸煙。

The heavy rain kept us from finishing our work on time.

They were kept from catching the train on time by the heavy traffic.

交通繁忙使他們不能按時趕上火車。

注意: stop/prevent…from doing sth。 其中from可以省略,但是用於被動不能省。

2. We human beings could not survive without all the plants and animals around us.

句中,cannot …out 是在雙重否定句表示肯定。

主語+否定+without+名詞(動名詞)

there+be+no+主語+without+名詞(動名詞)

We can not decide without seeing your samples.沒見到你方的作品,我們不能做出決定。

You cannot make bricks without straw.巧婦女難為無米之炊。

There will be no rain without wind.

3. Many of the earth’s plants and animals have already died out.

地球上的很多動植物都已絕跡。

Die out 滅絕;逐漸消失;漸漸止息。

The fire died out.火滅了。

This kind of bird is dying out 這種鳥逐漸絕種了。

Die的常用句組

Die away逐漸停止;逐漸消失

The noise of the motorcar died away.摩托車的 噪聲消失了。

Die back 植物枝葉枯萎

Die down逐漸減弱,逐漸模糊

After the excitement of the audience died down, the speaker restarted his speech.

等觀眾激動的情緒平息後,演講人又重新開始演講。

Die hard (舊習慣等) 難改掉,難消失

die off 相繼死去

4. We must learn to act in ways that do not harm other living things.

我們必須學會運用那些對生物沒有什麼傷害的生活方式。

Way後面的that引導定語從句,修飾ways。

注意way 的用法:

(1) Way (意為“方法”) 經常不用介詞。 例如:

I think you’re putting it together in the wrong way.我認為你把它裝錯了。

Do it any way you like. 你愛怎麼幹就怎麼幹。

注意: 在有關從句的句子裏,我們在way後面常用that 來代替in which。 例如:

I like the way (that) she organized the meeting. 我喜歡他組織會議的方法。

(2)way 後面可跟“帶to 的動詞不定式”結構,也可跟“of+-ing”結構。兩者之間沒有重要區別。例如:

There’s no way of prove he was stealing money. There is no way of proving he was stealing money.無法證明他在偷錢。

(3)不要混淆in the way 和on the way: in the way是用來談障礙-----阻止你到想到去的地方的人或物:on the way意為“在途中”。試比較:

Please don’t stand in the kitchen door, you’re in the way.

Let’s not stop too often on the way.

5. If we know more about what causes endangerment, we may be able to take measures before it is too late. 假如我們多瞭解一點關於我們面臨危險的原因,也許我們還來得及能夠採取措施。

(1)take measures與take steps意義相同,是“採取措施”是意思

We should take measures to protect our environment.我們應該採取措施來保護環境。

The government took strong measures against dangerous drivers.

政府採取強硬措施來保護環境。

(2) take one’s measure 給某人量尺寸(做衣服): 估量某人的品格,能力等

(3)注意before 的用法

The fire lasted about four hours before the firefighters could control it

大火持續了大約4個小時,消防員才將火控制。

The teacher asked us some questions before he came to the new lesson.

老師先問了我們幾個問題再進入新課。

6. Animals and plants must have a habitqat or home which is comfortable and clean, and where there is enough food and other resources.

7. they are all used to their environment.他們都適應了他們的環境。

(1) be/get used to sth./ doing sth 適應…: 習慣做… 例如:

I have been used to the weather of the south.我已經適應了南方的天氣。

He is used to living in the big city.他不習慣住大城市。

(2) used to do sth 過去經常做什麼

He used to go to school on foot.他過去常步行上學。

As a child, he did not use to work on the farm.孩子時他不常在農場裏幹活。

注意:would 也表示過去的習慣動作,是“常常,總是”的意思。例如:

He would sit for hours doing nothing.過去他常常坐幾個小時什麼也不做。

He would come to see us on Sundays.過去星期天他經常來看望我們。

(3) be used to do sth被用來做什麼

Wood can be used to make paper.木材可以用來造紙。

Bamboo is often used to be building materials.竹子是用來做建築材料的

動物或植物要適應變化要麼找個新家。

(1) 句中adapt to是適應之意。

The animals has adapted to its new environment.這個動物已經適應了他的新環境。

We should try to adapt the children to the new studying conditions.

我們盡力讓孩子適應了他新的學習環境。

(2)adapt/adjust/fit/suit/match 的區別:

adapt指“修改或改變以適應新條件

You should adapt yourself to the new environment.你應該適應新環境。

Adapt指“調整,調節“使之適應呀。如:

You can’t see through the telephone until it is adjusted to your eyes.

你把望遠鏡調節到適合你的目光之後,你才看的見。

Fit 多指“大小合適”, 引申為“吻合”。 如:

The shoes fitted me well.這鞋我穿正好。

Suit 多指“合乎要求,口味,性格,情況”等。如:

No dish suits all shoes.眾口難調。

Devote oneself to sth./doing sth be devoted to sth /doing sth。例如:

The number of “….的數目”, 例如:

1. A picture of tiger

Let students know that the tigers have no place to hide and to hunt for food when farmers cut down trees. Many of them are killed for their fur and bones.

The number of the pandas id getting smaller and smaller because there are few areas left where pandas can live and people sometimes kill pandas to sell the fur.

From the brief introduction above, we know that many of the world’s animals and plants are in danger. Now please discuss the following questions and give the reasonable answers to them.

Four or five students form a group. And then get some of them to give heir answers.

1. Do you know about any other endangered animals? Why are they in danger?

2. Why is it important to make sure that animals do not die out?

3. What can we do to help the endangered animals?

Step1 Presentation

T: All of us have seen many kinds of animals in zoos. Here are some pictures of animals. The teacher presents some pictures of a tiger, a tiger, a panda, a kangaroo, a giraffe a monkey and an elephant.

Step2 Dialogue

Now a reporter for the magazine national wildlife is writing an article about the animals in zoos and he is going to interview some animals to find out something about the advantages and disadvantages of living in zoos. Work together with your partner. Suppose one of you is the reporter and the other is an animal. Take turns making dialogues by asking and answering questions. Here is an example for you to follow.
