A. Useful expressions:

1. fair adj. treating each person, side, etc. equally and according to the law,

rules, etc. antonym -- unfair

What you said is not fair to her.

2. design v. designer

His job was to design new machines.

3. to one's surprise/disappointment/joy/excitement

To everyone's surprise, Mr King refused.

Everyone was surprised that Mr King refused.

4. refuse = not accept

Mr King refused to take off his trousers.

5. at work -- at the place where one works 在工作的地方

If anyone at work discovers my secret, I shall lose my job.

If anyone who works in my company doscovers my secret,I shall be fired.

6. pretend ─ make oneself appear to be (doing) sth in order to deceive others

Mr King had to pretend to be a man in order to get a job.

She pretended not to see me.

7. call at a place *call on sb.

Mr Pattis called at the hospital after work.

*Mr Pattis called on Mr King at the hospital after work.

8. for a moment or two 一會兒

For a moment or two everyone was quiet.

9. look down upon/on sb. ─ consider sb/sth lower in quality, importance, rank,

etc. than oneself

The boss looked down upon women.

10. think of consider; 考慮 have the idea of 對謀事有見解, 想到

think about consider; 考慮 recall sb/sth 回想

That's because we never thought of it.

*They are thinking of/about moving to South America.

11. get a job with 後跟單位，如等， 解釋為“成為該...的一員”

It seems that she lied in order to get a job with our company.

I hear that he is with YAHOO now.

B. Sentence patterns:

1. giving opinions 表達意見

I’m sure / think / guess / believe + that clause

It seems that …

In my opinion, …

2. have + object + doing doing 表示該動作有一種延續性, 或表示動作正在

進行。

But we have never had women working in this part of company before.

In harvest time we have our tractors working day and night.
