原因狀語的其它表示法

在現行高中英語教材中，原因狀語通常是由介詞for, at, with, of, because of等構成的介詞短語和從屬連詞because, since, as, now that等引導的從句來説明原因。此外，原因狀語還有其它一些表示法，學生在閲讀過程中，往往會對句子意思產生誤解。因此，筆者就平時的教學過程中遇到的原因狀語的其它表示方法，歸納如下：

1. 用介詞短語來表示，常見的有：thanks to, by reason of, on account of, owing to等。

We succeeded by reason of good organization. 因為組織得好，我們成功了。

I didn't come on account of the bad weather. 我因天氣不好而沒來。

Owing to the drought, crops are short. 因乾旱，穀物欠收。

2. 用形容詞及形容詞短語來表示。

Curious, they looked around for other guests. 出於好奇，他們環顧了一下其餘的客人。

Much interested, he agreed to give it a try. 他很感興趣，同意試一試。

Thirsty and eager to get a little rest, he went into the tea-house. 由於口渴，又想歇一會兒，他走進了茶館。

3. 用不定式，分詞短語來表示。

We are proud to be young people of new China. 我們為是新中國的青年而感到自豪。

Being poor, he could not send his son to school. 因為貧窮，他不能送他兒子去上學。

Influenced by the hero's example, they performed countless good deeds. 在英雄事蹟的影響下，他們做了無數的好事。

4. 用獨立主格來表示。

There being no buses, we had to walk home. 因為沒有公共汽車，我們只得步行回家。

The key having been lost, Tom could not enter the room. 因為鑰匙丟了，湯姆進不了房間。

The homework finished, she went out to play. 因為作業完成了，她出去玩了。

With his food running out, the men had to come out of his hiding-place. 由於食物吃完了，那人才不得不從藏身處出來。
