大衞的母親死後，他的繼父就不再讓他上學，並逼着大衞去做童工，做了童工的大衞生活變得更加困難，一個星期6個先令讓大衞省吃儉用，很快他就偷跑了出來，投奔他富有的姨婆，並被姨婆送進學校，受到了好的教育。

儘管大衞童年時受盡了磨難，但他善良，樂於助人的性格沒變，並且他最終也取得了幸福美滿的愛情。

《大衞·科波菲爾》讓我懂得了自傳的書寫方式，也讓我明白了只有磨練自己，你才可以成功。
