At first he was ashamed to see the other foxes because he had no tail, but he was determined to face his misfortune. He called all the foxes to a meeting.

When they had gotten together, the fox said that they should all do away with their tails.

He said that their tails were very inconvenient when they met with their enemies. He did not talk about any advantages of the tail. "You are right," said one of the older foxes, "but I don’t think you would advise us to do away with our tails if you hadn't lost it yourself first."

1. 用作形容詞和副詞 late 的比較級。如：

It’s rather later than I thought. 這比我想的還要晚。

He left home later than usual. 他比平常還晚離家。

2. 用於一段具體時間之後，表示從過去或將來算起的多長時間以後，但通常不指從現在算起的多久以後。如：

誤：I’ll call again a week later.(可改為…in a week)

正：I called again a week later. 一週後我又打了電話。

正：I’ll call her on March 5 and will call again a week later. 我將在3月5日給她打個電話，過一週後我將再打個電話。

但是later單獨使用(即不連用具體時間)，可以表示從現在算起的“以後”(具有泛指意義)。如：

如何提高英語聽力水平

第一點.

關於聽力基本功的認識問題我建議大家去買一本鍾道隆編的《逆向法巧學英語》一書仔細看看,裏面很多道理也説的很清楚了.我這裏只想以我的親身體驗 "斬釘截鐵"的告訴大家:開始 "真正"練習聽力的時候(我這裏所提到的 "真正" 不是指那些考試技巧,而是發自內心的想要掌握,運用,享受英語的源動力),千萬不可操之過急,一開始就去聽那些原版的標準速度的聽力資料,一方面這樣的方法極不科學;另一方面也會給自己剛剛培養起來的自信心帶來巨大的重創.十有八九(也可以説是所有的人)都會很快放棄的.我自己當初也是這樣,感覺簡直是在聽天書,十幾分鐘的錄音下來能夠把Topic聽準確已經是很不錯了,當中的細節部分根本沒有時間反應就一閃而過了.這種過程簡直就是一種 "煎熬". 當然也有少數意志力驚人的朋友堅持了下來,但是由於方法的失策,造成自己把大量的.時間精力(有時可以説是青春)投入其中,可是回報卻難以和付出平衡,收效甚微.説到這兒叫我想起以前我們有一位上外的聽力老師講的真人真事:一位研究生深知自己聽力不過關,決心發奮苦讀.於是他每天早上都堅持聽廣播電台裏的標準英語,這樣一聽就是五年的時間.這種苦行僧似的磨鍊並沒有使他的聽力水平真正得以提高.後來我們這位老師在瞭解了他的情況以後,告訴他之所以到現在他的聽力還未真正突破最主要的原因就是他的基礎沒有打好,總是泛泛而聽,而且總是聽些已經有中文背景知識的廣播,就會造成一種錯覺,好象什麼都聽懂了,又好象什麼也沒聽懂.大意能夠抓住(其實是有背景知識的原故),真正精確到每一句話,每一個單詞卻總是丟三落四的,不能準確的傳情達意.這種沙上建塔的 "辛勞"永遠也不會建成堅固的大廈,而總是在進行建了倒下,倒下了再建的重複勞動.

複習資料的不良, 會導致複習的束手無策和低效。 針對高考聽力，市面上鮮有針對性強，受到大家廣泛認可的複習資料, 多是模仿真題而成的模擬題.。學校內用的聽力資料，也多是如此。此類模擬題的特點是多為套題。以廣東省為例，一套題中包含六段材料，主題各不相同。此種設置，可供複習階段的後期使用，維持水平，查缺補漏。 而對複習階段的初期中期這種設置就不甚理想。

二.如何看待模擬題

根據考試內容以日常交際場景為主的特點，理想的複習模式是，將考試中涉及的常見場景逐一列出，之後針對每個場景做大量練習，個個擊破。但是市面上鮮有這樣的將場景進行分類並配有相應詞彙解釋，句型補充，考點分析的高考聽力資料。有些雅思的複習資料採用了這種的設置，但是其材料的長度，播放速度，詞彙範圍等又和高考有差異，用來不是十分的理想。而模擬題，在長度，播放速度，單詞範圍，及場景選擇上都有保證。所以它還是我們首先要重視的複習資料，只是它的排列太散亂，不利初期階段進行的有針對性的複習。

三.如何利用模擬題

針對模擬題排列散亂的缺點，我們可以自己作整理工作，分門別類，多遍精聽，分析特點。以校內的聽力練習為例，據瞭解校內的聽力練習多為套題，多是聽一次，聽完對過答案後，學生基本就對其置之不理了。這種做法其實是一種資源浪費，我們還應該進一步的做以下的工作：

1. 整理工作。將聽過的場景分門別類，合併同類項。比方，你聽過了10套題，60段材料，其中一定有場景會重複出現。可將相同的場景放到一起，進行同類聽。

2. 詞彙工作。在同類聽的過程中，將每個場景中的常見詞彙整理出來，建立一個聽力的場景詞彙表。並且要查找出自己的生詞，生詞是因人而異的，一定要自己去查找，並且是從音的角度，有些同學，能用眼睛認出一個詞，但用耳朵就不行。

3.信息點工作。在同類聽的過程中，要將信息點整理出來，因為考點就含在信息點裏。一段材料，可能會出現十幾個信息點，但只拿出3個(選擇題)或5個(聽取信息題)作為考點。可以將同一場景下每段材料的信息點都排列出來，並進行分析，瞭解哪些信息點容易被當作考點。這樣在聽音的過程中，才能變被動為主動，積極聽音。

At the beginning, it was light snow. By the time we finished school, it was heavy snow. There were big snowflakes flying all over the sky! Grass, trees are wearing white hats, snowflakes fly into my neck cool swish. If the snow can be bigger, we can make snowmen and have snowfights.
