關於聖誕樹有這樣一個傳説：據説有一位農民在一個風雪交加的聖誕夜裏接待了一個飢寒交迫的'小孩，讓他吃了一頓豐盛的聖誕晚餐，這個孩子告別時折了一根杉樹枝插在地上並祝福説：“年年此日，禮物滿枝，留此美麗的杉樹，報答你的好意。”小孩走後，農民發現那樹枝竟變成了一棵小樹，他才明白自己接待的原來是一位上帝的使者。這個故事就成為聖誕樹的來源。

聖誕節的確是個令人雀躍期待的日子，尤其是小孩子，他們盼望着在聖誕節，那個穿着紅色大衣，有着雪白鬍須，紅紅臉膛，慈祥的聖誕老人，趕着馴鹿，拉着裝滿玩具的和禮物的雪橇挨家挨户給每個孩子帶來禮物。他們相信這個快樂老精靈在夜裏會從大煙囱下來，給他們帶來滿襪子的禮物。
