鏡湖在蕪湖市可是個家喻户曉的地方，外地人來蕪湖必看的一景。現在的鏡湖風景優美，是市民休閒的好去處。可你知道以前的鏡湖是什麼樣子嗎？聽我給你講講吧。

在上世紀90年代中後期，鏡湖的水體呈高富營養化狀態，水質嚴重惡化，水變成了黃色。惡化的原因主要有：蕪湖市某醫院通過地下水道將大量未經處理的污物、污水直接排進了鏡湖；部分素質不高的市民往鏡湖裏倒垃圾；最可氣的是鏡湖風景區的某些工作人員竟然在鏡湖裏洗拖把！慢慢地，鏡湖水變成了黃色，湖面上漂浮着許多垃圾，還散發着一股臭味。來到鏡湖邊的人們都捂着鼻子跑開了，嘴裏還不停地説：“真臭！臭死了！”

一九九九年DDD二０００年，蕪湖市人民政府號召全市人民清理鏡湖。首先，工作人員用機器將湖水抽乾，再由黨員帶頭和市民們一起挖掉淤泥，最後注入清澈的水。我外公是黨員，他有着親身體驗，外公説，那次勞動很累，但改善了鏡湖的水質，大夥兒都感到很高興。

現在人們的環保意識增強了，再也沒有人往鏡湖裏扔垃圾、排污水了。當你來到鏡湖時，你會看到一片清澈的湖水，水底游來游去的小魚，湖水旁婀娜的垂柳和剛長出來的.青青的小草。

Legislative steps have been introduced to control air pollution, to protect the forest and sea resources and to stop any environmental pollution. Therefore, governments are playing the most important role in the environmental protection today.

In my opinion, to protect environment, the government must take even more concrete measures. First, it should let people fully realize the importance of environmental protection through education. Second, much more efforts should be made to put the population planning policy into practice, because more people means more people means more pollution. Finally, those who destroy the environment intentionally should be severely punished. We should let them know that destroying environment means destroying mankind themselves.

The second thing we can do is to reuse the old textbooks as possible as we can. We should also never forget to turn off the lights when we leave the classrooms in order to save energy. What's more, it would be better if we walk or ride a bike to school. We should try our best reduce pollution and waste.

In fact,even the simplest everyday activities can make a real difference to the environment. I believe we can make the world a better place to live in.
