We are glad to have such a good chance to visit Hong Kong with our hero Yang Uwei. And I‘ll take this opportunity to introduce Yang Liwei to all. Mr Yang was born in Suizhong, Liaoning Province. Mr Yang has a happy family, he and his wife with his 8-year-old son. He used to be an excellent pilot with an experience of 1350 hour s flight. "Fire! Fire!" what terrible words to hear when one wakes up in a strange house in the middle of the night! It was a large, old. wooden house--the sort that burns easily--and my room was on the top floor. I jumped out of bed, opened the door and stepped out into the passage. It was full of thick smoke.

I began to run, but as I was still only halfawake, instead of going towards the stairs I went in the opposite direction. The smoke grew thicker and I could see flames all around. The floor became hot under my bare feet. I found an open door and ran into a room to get to the window. But before I could reach it, one of my feet caught in something soft and I fell dom, The thing I had fallen over felt like a bundle of clothes, and I picked it Llp to protect my face from the smoke and heat. Just then the floor gave way under me and I crashed to the floor below with pieces of burning wood all around me.

I saw a flaming doorway in front, put the bundle over my face and ran. My feet burned me terrible, but I got through. As I reached the cold air outside, my bundle of clothes gave a thin cry. I nearly dropped it in my surprise. Then I saw a crowd gathered in the street. A woman in a night dress au d a borrowed man＇s coat screamed as she saw me and came running madly.

"My baby! My baby!" she cried. The crowd cheered wildly as she took the smokeblackened bundle out of my arms, I had some difficulty in recognizing her. She was the Mayor＇s wife and I had saved her baby. I was a hero!

“着火了！着火了！”當我睡在一間陌生的房屋裏時，半夜裏傳來了這種非常可怕的聲音。那是一棟又大又舊的木屋——非常容易燒着的那種，而我的房間在頂層。我跳下牀，打開門，出來到了走廊上，那裏已經是濃煙滾滾了。

我開始跑起來。但因為仍然還是半睡半醒，我不是朝樓梯而是朝相反的方向跑去。煙霧越來越濃，四處火舌沖天。我光着腳，感到腳下的地板也熱起來了。我找到了一扇開着的門，就朝房間的窗户衝去。但還沒有到窗户邊，我的一隻腳被一個軟軟的東西絆住，摔倒了。將我絆倒的東西好像是一捆衣服．我把它撿起來遮住臉，用它擋住煙火和熱氣。正在那時，我腳底下的地板塌下去了，我和身邊那些一塊快燃燒着的木板一道掉到了下面一層房間的地板上。

我見前面的門口也燒着了，就用那捆衣服擋住臉跑了起來。我的腳被燙得夠嗆，但是終於衝出來了。當我衝到外面時，我手裏的那捆衣服發出了微弱的哭聲，我驚訝得幾乎把它扔掉。後來，我看見一羣人聚集在街上。一個身穿睡衣、外面罩着一件借來的男大衣的女人看見我時，尖叫起來，併發瘋似的跑了過來。

“我的孩子！我的孩子！”她喊道。當她從我手中接過被煙燻黑的那個包裹時，人羣高興地狂呼起來。我費了點兒勁才認出她來，她是市長夫人。我救了她的孩子，我成了英雄。

The other day the TV reported that a retired school math teacher, Beth Smith, has been volunteering for the past 20 years at a United Nation’s refugee camp in Thailand, helping kids who cannot afford to go to school learn math and English.

I was deeply touched when watching the story, especially when the reporter asked Beth why she would spent all her time in a third world country volunteering, she replied, “By helping these kids, I feel I’m doing good for the society, therefore I feel happy.”

Her answer made me think about the virtue of helping others, and I realize that she is a true hero in my heart.
