或許一般人如果患了這種病，早就瘋掉了，但是天才就是天才，他用堅強的`意志支撐着自己。當他發現吃藥會讓他無法思考問題的時候，他停下了吃藥，但是不吃藥自己的腦海中又會出現很多的幻覺，幻想出很多人一直在他的周圍，不斷要求他繼續自己的研究。而且在很長的一段時間中，他認為他所幻想出來的人是存的。這樣他一直生活在痛苦中，一直也無法擺脱這種痛苦的折磨。

雖然痛苦一直折磨他，但是他卻勇敢走進人羣中。他極喜歡大學的校園，他會漫步校園，他會默默在圖書館中，或者是給一羣學生講課。

他並沒有放棄什麼，堅持自己的研究。他的身旁還有一個一直默默為他承擔痛苦的妻子，在她最痛苦的時候並沒有離開他，而是和她一起戰勝病魔，可以説沒有艾麗西亞，就沒有納什的偉大。他在最後獲得諾貝爾獎的時候的一段演講也是感人至極，沒有什麼豪言壯語，有的只是發自內心的一段讓人的心靈得到慰藉的樸實的話。
